May God's Peace, mercy and blessings be upon you, Are you wondering where to go to safely worship and attend peaceful congregational Shia Islamic religious services in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley? Fortunately, you have many choices as there are several Jaʿfari (جعفري) Islamic mosques and centers in the Bay Area. We have visited and thoroughly evaluated the merits of many of these Shiite organizations. Thus, we provide you with the following reviews:
Azakhana-e-Zahra | Fatimiyya Islamic Center (FIC)
The Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC) Masjid Al-Rasool | Shia Association of Bay Area (SABA Islamic Center) For Urdu-speaking Shiites in the South Bay (San Jose Area) and the East Bay there used to be the following Jaʿfari Shia center (now closed, but a large number of this center's former congregation are now meeting at Dar-e-Butool, PBUH, located at 44920 Osgood Rd, Fremont CA, 94539 -- email ghulamaan@dar-e-butool.org for more details):

Syed Mudassir has authored Islamic booklets that shed light on the Hereafter, Irfan (Islamic mysticism), and Islamic philosophy. Syed Mudassir has served on the boards of several Islamic institutions. He has also co-founded Shia Association of Bay Area (SABA Islamic Center) and then moved on to establish Azakhana-e-Zahra, PBUH. السيد مدثر علي شاه الموسوي

Also in the picture, from left, Syed Ehtisham Zaidi and Seyyed Mojtaba Beheshti. Standing is prominent Shia community member Syed Abu Mohammad Naqvi. Seyyed Mojtaba Beheshti was introduced to the Bay Area Shia community by none other than Nabi Raza Mir (a.k.a. Nabi Raza Abidi), the resident mullah at Shia Association of Bay Area (Saba Islamic Center).
Indeed, numerous Shia mullahs have visited Azakhana-e-Zahra, PBUH, especially during important Islamic occasions.
Azakhana-e-Zahra | Fatimiyya Islamic Center (FIC)
The Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC) Masjid Al-Rasool | Shia Association of Bay Area (SABA Islamic Center) In the East Bay, there is the following SABA-allied center (basically, this is a SABA Center branch in Hayward):
David Salman (a.k.a. Dawood Salman: Arabic: داوود سلمان; a.k.a. Abu Baqir: Arabic: أبو باقر) led prayers and provided English speeches at Fatimiyya until he relocated to Bloomington, Indiana. Rafic Labboun (Arabic: رفيق لبون), translator of the book The Murder of al-Husayn (مقتل الحسين، عليه السلام), also led prayers and sermons and gave speeches in English at Fatimiyya on regular basis. In January 2009, Labboun was arrested by the FBI. In 2010, he was tried, convicted, sentenced and utlimately imprisoned at the Federal Correctional Institution in Lompoc, California (near Santa Barbara). The infamous Khomeinist mullahs Nabi Raza Mir (a.k.a. Nabi Raza Abidi) of Shia Association of Bay Area and Zaheer ul Hassan of Velayat TV USA also indoctrinate at Fatimiyya too.
Azakhana-e-Zahra | Fatimiyya Islamic Center (FIC)
The Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC) Masjid Al-Rasool | Shia Association of Bay Area (SABA Islamic Center) For Farsi- and English-speaking Shiites in the Bay Area, especially the East Bay and San Francisco, we highly recommend the following distinguished Persian-American Shia Islamic center:
Located in a beautiful area in downtown Oakland, the Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC) offers numerous services to the residents of the Bay Area, especially the Shia Muslim Persian expatriate community. The ICCNC is famous for hosting a variety of cultural, educational, political, and religious events as well as an annual Norooz Bazaar. The ICCNC Norouz event is quite popular. The Andeesheh School's Golden Thread Theatre group presents the ever so popular Rumi x 7 play.
The ICCNC also includes the Andeesheh School, with classes ranging from Kindergarten all the way to the Sixth Grade. Both the ICCNC and the Andeesheh school were established in 1995.
Numerous mullahs have visited the ICCNC to promote Islam and educate the audiences about the true purpose of the Religion of Inner Peace. Sheikh Ahmad Iravani
![]() Sheikh Ahmad Iravani of the Catholic University of America is a frequent guest speaker at the Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC). Professor Iravani is the Director for Islamic Studies and Dialogue at the Center for the Study of Culture and Values at the Catholic University of America.
Prominent politicians and Islamic leaders such as Seyyed Ata'ollah Mohajerani (الوزير السابق السيد الدكتور عطاء الله مهاجراني), who had served as the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance in the Cabinet of former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami, have also visited the ICCNC to reach out to the local Iranian-American community. عطاء الله مهاجراني

The ICCNC offers its visitors a very unique experience of the Persian Islamic culture. We highly recommend visiting this Islamic center to both Muslim worshipers and non-Muslims interested in learning about Islam and Iran as well as.
Azakhana-e-Zahra | Fatimiyya Islamic Center (FIC)
The Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California (ICCNC) Masjid Al-Rasool | Shia Association of Bay Area (SABA Islamic Center) For Farsi-speaking Shiites in the South Bay (San Jose area), we highly recommend Masjid Al-Rasool, PBUH&HF. Masjid Al-Rasool is an American Jaʿfari Shia Islamic center established by Persian-American Shiites to serve the San Francisco Bay Area Shia community. Masjid Al-Rasool community center and prayer hall is conveniently located in a beautiful and scenic area in Campbell, at the intersection of San Tomas Expressway and Budd Avenue:
The business and administrative offices of Masjid Al-Rasool are located nearby in San Jose.
Hassan Dastgah (حسن دستغة) runs Masjid al-Rasool. Hassan has been providing superb services to the Shiites of the Bay Area, including shuttle service to elderly members of the congregation! ![]() The counterterrorism activist Sam Bazzi, right, with Mr. Hassan Dastgah, the founder and president of Masjid al-Rasool. Mr. Dastgah, a Persian, is a prominent member of the Bay Area Shia community. He currently administers Masjid al-Rasool from his San Jose offices, located at 552A South Bascom Avenue.
Numerous Shia Shia mullahs have preached at Masjid al-Rasool. Seyyed Mojtaba Beheshti periodically visited Masjid al-Rasool. He also lead the Umra (minor favored non-mandatory pilgrimage trips to Mecca and Medina) groups of Masjid al-Rasool. Seyyed Mahmoud Sedehi, Sheikh Ahmad Iravani, Syed Mudassir Ali Shah Moosvi and Sheikh Adel Sarikhani have also preached at Masjid al-Rasool. In 2007, Zaheer ul Hassan briefly served as an imam at this mosque after he was allegedly suddenly fired from Azakhana-e-Zahra by Syed Mudassir Ali Shah Moosvi for allegedly inciting the Azakhana congregation against Moosvi. At that time, Mr. Dastgah took Zaheer under his wings out of kindness. الشيخ عادل ساريخاني

Also, the Persian food at Masjid Al-Rasool is superb! Indeed, Masjid Al-Rasool is a hub for many in the South Bay Iranian Shia community.

There is also the following Khomeinist, pro-Velayat-e Faqih, anti-America, Islamist center in San Jose:
Unless you are a staunch Basij scarf-sporting Khomeinist, we do NOT recommend this place for you. To moderate, traditional Shiites and others we encourage you to visit and attend services at ICCNC of Oakland. Ali Mir (a.k.a. Ishraq Abidi) says: "HEZBOLLAH [an international terrorist organization]. Take The Gun And Fight the Zionists [i.e., Jews] and the Nawasib [i.e., Sunni Muslims]." ![]() Ali Mir (a.k.a. Ishraq Abidi), pictured above, is the second son of the notorious Nabi Raza Mir. Ali Mir is a highly active member of Shia Association of Bay Area (SABA Center), where his father, Nabi Raza, is the resident-imam. Ali is also highly active in the Saba Youth Group (SYG). This unfortunate young man is being groomed by his father to be a mullah too. He therefore leads the SABA congregation in the recitation of Du'a Kumayl and Surat Ya-Seen, etc. Yet, there is are very sinister sides to both father and son: They promote Khomeinism and Hezbollah in America. As featured above, Ali Mir favores the usage of violence against Zionists [i.e., Jews] and so-called Nawasib [i.e., Sunni-Muslims]!
Khomeinism agent Nabi Raza Mir (a.k.a. Nabi Raza Abidi) of Alipur, Karnataka, India, is the pro-Velayat-e Faqih resident mullah at that notorious place. They also run a madrasah there named Saba Academy! Fancy name, huh? But Ruhollah Khomeini, Ali Khamenei and Hassan Nasrallah are still the role models for these pro-Hezbollah folks! The investigative journalist Lee Kaplan and Zia Atabay of NITV discussed the unfortunate pro-Hezbollah Internet activities of SABA's Ali R. Mir (a.k.a. Ishraq Abidi).
![]() Nabi Raza Mir (a.k.a. Nabi Raza Abidi) is the resident-mullah at Saba Islamic Center/Saba Mosque of San Jose, CA. Nabi Raza is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Shia Association of Bay Area (SABA), the governing entity of Saba Islamic Center. Nabi Raza is also the father of the unfortunate youth Ali R. Mir (a.k.a. Ishraq Abidi). Indeed, like father like son!
Malcolm Shabazz was the keynote speaker at Saba Islamic Center's Husayn Day Peace Walk in Oakland, California.
